Block of the Month Schedule

This Block of the Month spans 7 months, beginning in June. The first month features the supporting blocks—an easy, welcoming introduction to foundation paper piecing (FPP), with a mix of traditional piecing included. It’s the perfect way to ease into the project before the story blocks begin!

  • June: Star, Present, and Candle Blocks

  • July: Grandfather Clock Block

  • August: Sleigh Block

  • September: Christmas Tree Block

  • October: Mouse King Block

  • November: Ballerina Block

  • December: Nutcracker Block

Please note that fabric requirements for Foundation Paper Piecing projects can vary depending on the individual quilter and their technique. These fabric requirements are based on standard fabric usage with some overage.


FAQ

  • What skill level is required for this pattern? What if I've never done FPP?

    As a whole this BOM is an intermediate skill level. However, the first month includes a basic Foundation Paper Piecing tutorial and has some beginner-friendly blocks to get you started. Each month becomes a little bit more challenging (though the December block is quite straightforward and not a difficult sew!).

  • What if the BOM has already started? Can I still sign up?

    You can sign up any time during (or after) the BOM and still receive all of the blocks!

  • Can I buy a block separately?

    When the BOM has concluded, some of the featured blocks will likely be added to my shop. However, they will be priced accordingly due to their complexity, so if you want more than one of the blocks the most cost-effective approach is to sign up for the BOM.

  • Can I change the layout of this pattern?

    Yes! This pattern is designed to be flexible, and more layout options will be shown in the BOM content.

  • How large is this quilt when finished?

    This pattern finishes at 60" x 60". If you are experienced at scaling FPP templates, you could scale them to be larger or smaller if desired.

  • What is included in this BOM?

    Each month from June - December you will receive a pattern with templates and any additional required instructions. The first month there will be a simple video FPP tutorial to start! This BOM does not include fabric, though kits may be available from shops. More information about kits will be shared closer to the BOM start date.

  • Where can I find fabric requirements?

    Fabric requirements will be posted here and shared with BOM participants by mid-May. Fabric requirements can be tricky for FPP projects, so there will be overage to provide for different FPP styles.

  • How will I get the blocks?

    The blocks will be available for download on your dashboard at alderwoodstudio.thinkific.com each month. An email reminder will be sent when the blocks are available for download!

  • Is this BOM a one-time payment?

    Yes, you sign up with a one-time payment for the whole BOM.
